Size Matters when it comes to the CISCO – WS-C3750G-24TS-S vs the S1U

- 7 March 2011, 07:03

Time and time again I get emails from my customers asking me “what’s the difference between the standard Cisco WS-C3750G-24TS-S (or E) model and the WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U (or E1U) models”.  So, I thought I’d take a second and break down the main differences in these pieces.

The first thing to understand is the “U” – this refers to a standard of measurement. For electronic equipment racks (e.g., 19 or 23 inches wide), One “U” is 1.75 inches; 2″U” is 3.5 inches and 3″U” is 5.25 inches. The non-1U models are 1.5U – meaning that they will take up more space in your rack than the 1U models.

There are additional differences between the models in the area of performance and standard memory as well.  Here is a breakdown:

WS-C3750G-24TS-E1U and S1U models draw less power, almost half in fact -  (100W compared to 190W). The Catalyst 3750G-24TS-S1U and the Catalyst 3750G-24TS-E1U also ship with an upgraded 32MB of Flash memory rather than the 16MB of Flash memory in the Catalyst 3750G-24TS-S and the Catalyst 3750G-24TS-E.
