HP will implement an Apriso solution for General Motors (News – Alert) so that the automobile manufacturer can expand its visibility and control over battery manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Apriso’s manufacturing and quality solutions will help GM expand control of production and product quality Chevrolet Volt battery assembly operations. This implementation by HP is designed to drive continuous improvement and provide flexibility for innovation in product design changes and marketplace responsiveness.
Apriso has stated that their FlexNet solution that is to be implemented by HP for GM provides real time visibility and collaboration of plant-level operations, filling the gap between ERP and automation systems. FlexNet lets users embrace change with agility, throughout their extended enterprise and supply chain network, by including a Business Process Management, or “BPM,” Suite, a Unified Data Model and a Service Oriented Architecture.
The FlexNet platform is designed to readily adapt to users’ existing IT infrastructure and it includes a suite of plug-and-play applications that can be deployed, modified and extended as required.
HP has effectively employed Apriso’s FlexNet at other GM manufacturing plants in the United States and China, with further implementations planned over the next 24 months.
Kevin Mixer, director of Quality Systems at General Motors, said that given the new technologies and the breadth of supplier relationships that are integral components of the Chevrolet Volt, they needed a fundamentally different approach to manufacturing operations. With market demands shifting, technologies evolving and new production processes across a distributed manufacturing network, partners like Apriso and HP aided them in adapting quickly.
Mark Collins , vice president of General Motors business has stated that now more than ever, manufacturers have a critical need for real-time quality issue notification and visualization of problems. With industry-leading expertise in manufacturing operations, HP can employ modular, scalable solutions to increase flexibility, making global manufacturers like GM more nimble.
Jim Henderson, president and chief executive officer of Apriso, said that their customers and partners increasingly view them as a trusted advisor to improve global manufacturing operations – a challenge they have consistently met. Apriso has a deep understanding of the unique issues facing the automotive industry, which can benefit GM by incorporating the industry’s best practices for quality, continuous improvement and manufacturing operations excellence.
